Raft and Longline Culture of Green Mussel, Perna viridis, in Cañas Bay, Iloilo, Philippines

چکیده
Grow-out methods like the raft and longline have been utilized by various countries in growing green mussel, Perna viridis. In Philippines, stake method using bamboo poles is still widely used, which believed to cause siltation that negatively affects mussel production. this study, feasibility of was determined based on growth condition index (CI). Environmental conditions Cañas Bay, Iloilo were also presented. Results showed there no significant difference except for final weight, where mussels found be significantly heavier than those longline. Meanwhile, CI did not differ between two methods. Physico-chemical parameters water Bay suitable mussels. Phytoplankton composed diatoms (86%), dinoflagellates (6%), algae (5%), blue-green (3%). This study suspended areas environmental favor growth.

Simulation of “Net” Nutrients Removal by Green Mussel (Perna viridis) in Estuarine and Coastal Areas
Green mussels (Perna viridis) can effectively remove nutrients from seawater through their filtration process. This study aims to estimate “net” nutrient removal rate by green mussel through calculation of nutrient uptake and release. Nutrients (carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus) uptake was calculated based on the mussel filtration rate. Nutrient release was evaluated from carbon, nitrogen and ph...
متن کاملBenzo[a]pyrene absorption and exposure pathways in the green mussel Perna viridis.
The absorption efficiency (AE) of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), a representative polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compound, in the green mussel Perna viridis was measured under different biological and food conditions (body size, food quantity, and food species). Uptake of BaP from the aqueous phase by different species of phytoplankton and green mussels was also experimentally quantified. A bioenergeti...
متن کاملModeling of cadmium bioaccumulation in two populations of the green mussel Perna viridis.
This study attempted to quantify differences in Cd biokinetics from two populations of green mussels (Perna viridis) from two sites (eastern and western) in Hong Kong with contrasting hydrological conditions. Body Cd concentrations were modeled using a simple biokinetic model coupled with measurements of dissolved Cd concentrations at each site. Mussels collected from the western site had three...
متن کاملCharacterization of green mussel (Perna viridis) hydrolysate prepared using alcalase and starfruit (Averrhoa carambola. L) protease
This study was carried out to evaluate the efficiency of natural protease extracted from starfruit (Averrhoa carambola. L) to hydrolyse green mussel (Perna viridis). Starfruit juice from fruit of maturity index 2 was extracted and purified using acetone precipitation method. The obtained protease was then used to hydrolyse green mussel and compared with alcalase. The conditions used to produce ...
